The Olympus Tough TG-Tracker

The Olympus Tough TG-Tracker is a great new option for scuba and freedivers alike. Olympus packed many amazing features and established Olympus quality into this compact waterproof camera. Although the camera’s primary purpose is high-quality video, producing 4K quality, it also takes great photos. It is truly an all purpose camera!

Stephanie and I took these little babies out for a spin. We were super happy with how easy the camera was to operate right out of the box. It made it so easy for us to capture beautiful videos and images. And we were pleasantly surprised by the sound quality. In the absence of a housing, the true sounds of the ocean and our surroundings came through beautifully.

Fantastic features with the TG-Tacker

Our favorite feature was that the camera requires no housing. The camera can go down to 100 feet, which is typically the deepest most recreational divers venture. And the best part is there is no need to worry about cleaning a housing after your dive is done. This minimizes the risk of flooding the camera, which was a big plus in our book! Now we just grab our camera and head out to the ocean.

There is a small LED light on the front of the camera that can be set to turn on each time you start your video, or switched on manually as desired. This is a nice feature for us when diving Southern California because it can be dark at depth in areas such as caves and under ledges. This light shines just enough to brighten up the area and get the shot of that horn shark hiding under the rocky ledge, or the silly octopus that won’t come out from a big kelp tree.

The tough has a flip out LCD screen where we can view the scene while shooting video. This helps ensure we can keep our subject in the frame of the video. The screen is also used to change settings. There are many settings to help improve videos and photos that can changed on the fly. The screen display is easy to read and navigate between options. It’s so easy, we can switch settings while swimming along the bottom on a breath hold.

Exploring the O. I Track app

The logging features included in this camera are amazing. It is so cool to be able to track not only where you are with the GPS features, but also to log depth. Switch the camera on and the GPS feature begins to track. A marker notes when you take a photo or video. For those that love to see where they were while getting the turtle selfie turn on the log and start moving. The O. I Track app shows you where you’ve been and what depth you visited. Super cool!

Video fun with the Olympus TG-Tracker.

The quality of the video is amazing for this compact camera. It produces beautiful footage with wonderful color.

The camera uses all standard attachments. We were able to use it with our selfie sticks or other mounting methods. It also comes with a handle that attaches so you can hold it in your hand like a flashlight.

The battery life is excellent. Also, the battery is the same across a number of Olympus products. So if you already own an Olympus, chances are you already have a TG-Tracker backup battery.
